Workshop 1

Bodies with Thought

Workshop led by Antoine Pickels

From July 4th till July 15th 2008, 14h-18h / 20H30-22H30

A body, it thinks. And its thought can emerge in the mind. This is the hypothesis of this workshop, which wants explore, through the use of the body, the manner in which we think of our bodies and the bodies of others. We shall use situations where we expose the naked body in front of others without consequent sexual overtones (at the hospital, in a changeroom, at the beach, in the theatre dressing room ). We shall work in parallel on: the stature of the body in front of another; the regard of a body upon another; the interaction between these bodies; and the thoughts that come to mind in these bodies, all whilst voicing these thoughts: desire, disgust, shame, envy, appetite, pain, unease, strength, glory, distress…

It will be about working the appearance, the weight, and the precision of the body within the acting space ; it will be about working the wording of thought, in its most informal, least formulated aspect, through writing and oral expression. It will be about modesty, sex, death, patterns, fantasies, guts, the image of oneself and the image of others. It will finally have to do with the way in which the private is made public, the intimate political.

Everyone’s limits in terms of modesty will be respected, taking into account that the aim of this workshop is also to find one's limits. It is not necessary to have a theatrical background, and if one does, it’s best to forget it. The first days will see the group together in research with Antoine Pickels, who will then be joined by two comedians, Christophe Garcia and Cédric Lenoir, and this will allow more detailed individual work.

Workshop 2

I am the light… No your light

Workshop led by Elisabeth Bakambamba Tambwe

From 4 till 14 July 2008, 14h-18h / 20H30-22H30

This workshop will be centred on the manipulation of the body - at times dominant, at times dominated - and, more importantly, on the transformation of individuals into stars. We will use a very simple set-up in which “spectators” are transformed into principal actors in order to underline an African and more precisely Congolese (only 2 e's in Congolese)particularity, whereby from one day to the next we can make a sergeant of a lance corporal, a Preacher of an atheist. It is a direct allusion to the destiny of the young Joseph Kabida, who, following the death of his father, would become the self-proclaimed president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

We will reflect on the process of creation: how to articulte a choreographic text where the physical participation ( body, gesture) and the theatrical (spoken , text) are entertwined. We will follow two stages of research: on the one hand, exercises and choreographed sentences proposed through demonstration and on the other hand, improvisation sessions allowing everyone to draw on their personal experience. This workshop is open to everyone.

Workshop 3

From Homo Sapiens to Pocket Monsters

Workshop led by Brigitte Mounier & Nadège de Kersabiec

du 4 au 14 juillet 2008, 14h-18h / 20H30-22H30

In an already established theatrical situation:( the meeting between Sylvio Akiyoshi, CEO of a toy multinational, and Jordan’s mother, a cleaning lady at the headquarters of the same multinational), the participants will construct the sonorous and plastic environment of the characters’ universe.

Starting with the principles used in contemporary vocal music of the 20 th century( “ musique aléatoir” or “unpredictable music”, predictable music), the participants will construct sonorous carpets and landscapes, a play of collective voices, rhythmic images, a round- about of sounds. It will also be necessary to apply oneself physically in order to commit to an immense place of action, invent the behaviours of a group of genetically modified Sapiens Sapiens and the transhumanness of a gang of "Pocket Monsters" in the midst of evolving.

This workshop is directed at all those who need and wish to unleash their energy in three-dimensional creation, even if they have no musical knowledge and musical theatre is completely unknown to them. It is also unnecessary to know the world of on-line games, though it could be useful. For the first few days the principles of improvisation will serve as the basis of our research. The skills and talents of each person could find an individual placing in the group or be blended into the group as a whole. Little by little Nadège de Kersabiec will build a new sonorous score where each person will find their voice and Brigitte Mounier will accompany them in the theatrical setting of the group.

Workshop 4

The Ever-Changing Workshop of the Manifest: The Re-Actors! of the Manifest Return

Workshop led by Jean Maurice Boudeulle & Pierre Boudeulle
